Our Matriarch
Vandy's Half Moon
Vandy is a 1981 dunn mare.

Vandy died of a stomach rupture following
acute onset of colic on Dec 7, 2002.

She is deeply missed by us all

She was my best friend for 21 years.  She
will always have the best of my heart.
It is said that Buckskins are the "spirit"
horses, that with them they carry special
gifts and an ability to conect to their riders in
a way other horses cannot.
There is no doubt about that in my mind.

Vandy was used for a variety of activities
from pleasure to roping and always rose to
the occassion.

She had an outstanding sound temperament
and the was the dam of our stud: Vandy's
Kola Bueno
Vandy's Kola Bueno
affectionately known as Kola
which is a lakota word meaning
friend, followed closely behind his
mother Vandy, who was indeed his
best friend, passing on
Tuesday, Dec 11, 2002.

Kola had been bitten the previous
week by a venomous snake,
presumably a rattlesnake, and had
fought a gallent battle to stay alive.

He was actully doing exceptionally
well,  but unfortunately the massive
edema in his neck from the bite
caused a rupture in one of his major
vessels and he began bleeding out
internally,
His passing is a tragedy, and taken
very hard, as he was a wonderful stud
horse with a gentle disposition and
kind eye.

I was ever so fortunate to be gifted
with being present at this wonderful
horses's birth, and equally gifted to
hold his head once again in my lap as
he passed from this world

We love you Kola.
Roses do not last forever.
Rosie was Abby's older sister, we
purchased them as a pair.  She was
one of those unique "pink" donkeys.
Abby was only a weanling and Rosie
was a yearling.  Her thin weight was
attributed to worms, however, after
multiple wormings and bloodwork it
was discovered that Rosie had a
significant heart valve defect, and it
was recognized she would not be able
to grow and survive.  She was a
gentle sould and we loved her dearly.
She passed from this world Jan 20,
2002.  She is deeply missed by all of
us.

Our Flock Guardian Jenny: Abby
Abby is a 2yr old small standard.  She is an
excellent flock guardian, she resides with the
broodmares and foals, and has already
proven her weight in gold, defending this
years colt from a small pack (4-6) of coyotes!

Abby has a dear personality and has also
learned to do tricks.

friends and companions
